BMW’s 6th Gen Batteries Land in Shenyang, Full Localization of Core Links Achieved
BMW’s powertrain plant in Shenyang has launched trial production of the energy control unit, marking full local implementation of all core segments for BMW’s sixth‑generation power batteries. The complete industrial chain — covering R&D, component sourcing, cell manufacturing, battery pack assembly and energy‑control‑unit production — has achieved domestic localization. It stands as a landmark milestone for BMW’s new‑energy business in China.

Sitting atop the battery pack, the energy control unit acts as the central controller for sixth‑gen batteries, with both hardware and software independently developed by BMW. It manages multi‑task operations to guarantee safe and intelligent performance of high‑voltage power batteries. Localized production shortens component delivery cycles, better adapts to Chinese vehicle application scenarios and mitigates supply‑chain risks. With trial production underway, BMW vehicles equipped with sixth‑generation batteries are drawing nearer to Chinese consumers.
