Toyota Motor officially announced that it will upgrade its performance division, Gazoo Racing, to an independent performance brand. All subsequent related models will continue to use the GR logo instead of the Toyota logo. After this adjustment, the GR brand will be positioned higher than the main Toyota brand but lower than the luxury brand Lexus, becoming the fifth independent brand following Toyota, Lexus, Daihatsu, and Century. This fills the gap in the brand's exclusive layout in the high-performance segmented market. Previously, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR for short) and Lexus jointly launched two flagship performance models, the GR GT and GR GT3, globally, paving the way for GR's independence.

As the pioneering works of the GR brand, the two new models GR GT and GR GT3 inherit the classic design philosophy of the TOYOTA 2000GT and Lexus LFA. They not only continue the retro and sporty style in appearance but also inherit the genes of legendary models in power tuning and handling performance. The independence of the GR brand means that Toyota will increase investment in the high-performance car sector, focusing on creating products with more driving pleasure to meet the needs of global car enthusiasts for sporty models. It also makes Toyota's brand matrix more complete, covering more segmented markets.
