Tesla has officially announced that its Semi electric truck has entered a new phase of mass production, a full 9 years after the model was first publicly unveiled. At the 2026 Q1 earnings call, Elon Musk mentioned that as a product with a brand-new supply chain, the Semi will have a relatively moderate initial production volume, but will see exponential growth in late this year and next year. It looks like Tesla is set to spark a new revolution in the commercial electric truck sector.

The Tesla Semi is equipped with a tri-motor drive system with a combined output of up to 800kW, available in two versions: a standard range version with an approximate range of 523 km, and a long-range version with around 805 km of range. It also supports 1.2 megawatt ultra-fast charging, with a maximum gross combination weight of 37 tonnes when fully loaded. Musk also made it clear that for the rest of this year, Tesla will make every effort to increase production capacity at all its factories for all models, with the Semi’s production ramp-up set to accelerate in tandem.
