BYD has officially announced that, nominated and recommended by the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG), it was approved by a unanimous vote of all IATF members on February 26, 2026, and officially joined the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) on March 11, 2026. It has become the first and only new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer member in the world since the organization was founded. This is a highly significant achievement, and also marks a further increase in the global voice of Chinese NEV manufacturers.

BYD Joins IATF as First Ever NEV Manufacturer Member

Founded in 1999, the IATF’s founding members include the automotive industry associations of the world’s five major automotive powers: the United States (AIAG), Italy (ANFIA), France (FIEV), the United Kingdom (SMMT) and Germany (VDA), as well as a number of the world’s leading automakers. Its quality management certification standard is a universal rule for the global automotive supply chain and an important threshold for entering the international automotive supply chain. The IATF AISBL that BYD joined this time is a new legal entity registered by the IATF in Belgium in March 2026, with the core purpose of strengthening the IATF’s global governance framework and ensuring the unity and sustainability of the certification system.
